Elisheva Sadan (2004) defines empowerment as a process through which an individual gains authority, power, and relative control over their life and environment, deciding to free themselves from a state of weakness and instability. From her perspective, a successful empowerment process requires coordination across three dimensions: individual, group (community), and professional (organizational and functional). Examining the power relationship between the adult author and the child audience remains a challenging issue in children’s literature, as the authority and influence of the powerful adult writer can overshadow both the text and the child reader, traditionally viewed as occupying a weak and unstable position. The most significant outcome of empowerment is fostering agency, self-confidence, and creative thinking in children. The works of Farhad Hassanzadeh, one of the most successful contemporary authors of children’s and young adult literature, not only provide entertainment but also teach impactful concepts such as empowerment. This study, using a descriptive-analytical method, examines Hassanzadeh’s childlike narratives through the lens of Sadan’s empowerment theory. It evaluates his application of these strategies, their qualitative level, and ultimately their function and success in empowering the child reader as the main objective of the article. The findings indicate that Hassanzadeh, in addition to employing Sadan’s methods with precision and intelligence, utilizes other creative techniques like metalepsis that bring his works closer to metafiction. These approaches can foster the development of choice-making, creativity, and the transformation of the passive child into an empowered, decisive, and influential individual.
